Development started in October 2017, just a few days after two griffin-loving online acquaintances both mentioned the idea of making a genetic game to breed them. Neither had any coding experience, beyond little snippets of JS and CSS, nor any idea where this project would go.
Well, skills have been learned, and the game is now evolving far beyond simply 'breeding griffins for pretty coats'... where will it end up?!
GwynMil: art, layout, code so far.
Riverspell: coming up with setting, lore ideas. Might join in with art or code soon.
Dinocanid: another game coder who answered heaps of Gwyn's stupid beginner PHP questions. The project might not have progressed past the early stages without their help. It certainly would've been slower.
arete: early testing, proof-reading and editing of Gwyn's ghastly attempts at descriptive writing.
Languages: PHP 7.1, lots of jQuery.
Hosting: currently hosted for free, by x10hosting. Amazing service, can't recommend enough! We will of course pay for a private server one day.
Framework: development began on the Mysidia PHP framework. It's very helpful for beginners who are brand new to coding, designing games, and using databases. After learning more PHP, Gwyn ended up scrapping 99% of the features and replacing with custom stuff. Currently, the only bits of Mysidia left are the Login/User Account system, and Prepared Database Statements.
Aiming to move off Mysidia entirely and develop a custom framework soon, with exactly the features we need.
Budget: so far, around $140. Mostly that was paying Dinocanid for code help, in the first few months. Otherwise, Gwyn and Riverspell work on this as a free-time hobby.
2D art: MS Paint, Photoshop CS3, FireAlpaca
3D art: Blender, Bryce 7, L3DT, Terragen Classic
Code editing: Notepad++
Code: DataTables plugin for pretty search results, jfortune plugin for wheel minigame
